The so-called Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act—already passed by the House on February 11—demands that Americans show proof of U.S. citizenship just to register to vote. Millions of eligible voters don’t have those documents on hand, creating a major roadblock to registration for new voters and every time someone moves or changes their name.

Don’t be fooled—REAL ID driver’s licenses in Texas (the ones with the gold star) do not prove citizenship. They only show lawful presence in the U.S.

This bill is a blatant attack on voting rights, pushed by Trump and his allies. The Senate will debate it starting April 13, and the clock is ticking.
